KIEV, February 21 (RIA Novosti) – At least 75 people have been killed in ongoing street clashes in Kiev since Tuesday, the Ukrainian health ministry said late on Thursday.

The increasingly intransigent standoff between the government and opposition took a bloody turn Tuesday after a crowd marching on parliament was confronted by law enforcement officers.

The violence in Ukraine is the worst the nation has seen since it gained independence in 1991.

“A total of 75 people died since the unrest began,” the ministry said in a statement.

In total, 571 people sought medical aid, 363 of them require hospital treatment.
