MOSCOW, August 7 (RIA Novosti) - Tens of thousands of people have flooded the streets of Tunisia’s capital Tunis to demand the government's resignation, media reported.

The march is the largest opposition protest in the city since the political crisis started in the country two weeks ago, Al Jazeera reported Tuesday.

The protest is timed to the six-month anniversary of the assassination of opposition politician Chokri Belaid, the Qatar-based news network reported.

Shortly before, Mustafa Ben Jaffar, the head of the embattled Constituent Assembly and centre-left party Ettakatol’s secretary-general, suspended the assembly's work “until the start of a dialogue, in the service of Tunisia,” Al Jazeera quoted him as saying on state TV.

Jaffar was speaking about a crisis caused by another killing of an opposition figure that has already led to many opposition members boycotting the assembly's sessions. Daily protests have been in place since the murder of leftist politician and assembly member Mohamed Brahmi on July 25.

Secular opposition in Tunisia is trying to oust the Islamist-led government and have the transitional Assembly dissolved.
