WASHINGTON, Aug 5 (RIA Novosti) – A US music festival in New York will shine a spotlight on the life and work of Russian composer Igor Stravinsky starting August 9, according to an official announcement from Bard Music Festival organizers.

“Stravinsky and His World,” to be held at Bard College, roughly two hours north of New York City, will trace Stravinsky's career from his early years in Russia and the scandalous premiere of “The Rite of Spring in Paris” in 1913 to his later years working in the United States.

The first part of the festival, “Becoming Stravinsky: From St. Petersburg to Paris,” will run August 9-11 and will consist of a series of concerts and panels exploring the work of Stravinsky and other Russian composers including Mikhail Glinka and Sergei Rachmaninov.

The second part of the festival, “Stravinsky Reinvented: From Paris to Los Angeles,” will run August 16-18 and will focus on Stravinsky’s later career.

“Stravinsky and his World” will be held on the grounds of Bard College, located in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.
