DUBAI, July 27 (RIA Novosti) - Five people were killed and 146 injured during Friday’s clashes between supporters and opponents of ousted president Mohamed Morsi in Egypt's second largest city of Alexandria, local media reported.

According to media reports, one of the victims was stabbed in the back during a mass demonstration and another died as a result of a gun wound, while it was unclear how three others were killed.

Al Jazeera reported that also on Friday tens of thousands of people gathered in Cairo streets mainly on the Tahrir square and outside the presidential palace, but demonstrations in the Egyptian capital were peaceful in comparison with Alexandria.

The Egyptian army deposed Morsi, who narrowly won the country’s first free presidential election last June with 51.7 percent of the vote, following mass nationwide protests against the rule of the Islamist president.

His current whereabouts remain unknown, but he is rumored to be kept in an undisclosed military location.
