WASHINGTON, July 16 (RIA Novosti) – Moscow’s Borodin Quartet, one of the oldest string quartets in the world, will perform a concert featuring a rarely heard Tchaikovsky composition at the Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox, Massachusetts on Wednesday.

Founded in 1945, the Borodin Quartet has been in existence for 68 years and is particularly celebrated for its close collaboration with the composer Dmitri Shostakovich, who personally supervised the quartet’s interpretations of his string quartets, according to the musicians’ official website.

The Borodin Quartet’s line-up has undergone numerous changes over the decades. The current formation includes the veteran Andrei Abramenkov, who joined in 1974, Ruben Aharonian and Igor Naidin who joined in 1996, and the “rookie” Vladimir Balshin, who became a member in August 2007.

The Borodin Quartet will perform a program featuring the music of Brahms and Tchaikovsky's Quartet No. 3 in E-flat minor, Op. 30.
