At least 40 people have been killed and over 100 others injured in two blasts in the Turkish town of Reyhanli, near the border with Syria, Interior Minister Muammer Guler told NTV on Saturday.

ANKARA, May 11 (RIA Novosti) – At least 40 people have been killed and over 100 others injured in two blasts in the Turkish town of Reyhanli, near the border with Syria, Interior Minister Muammer Guler told NTV on Saturday.

Two cars exploded in front of the municipality building and the post office in the southern province of Hatay, a few kilometers from the main border crossing into Syria, Guler told reporters.

Some 29 people are seriously injured, the minister said.

Five suspects, three of them Syrian nationals, have been detained in connection with the blasts, Turkey’s NTV has reported.

Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said the deadly attack in the Turkish town was not a "coincidence," warning against "provocations amid changes in neighboring Syria," hurriyetdailynews.com reported.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the explosion. Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said Syrian President Bashar Assad's government is considered to be the "usual suspect" behind the blasts.

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has not ruled out that the bombing could be linked to peace talks with Kurdish militants.
