A lawyer of Russian national Viktor Bout, who has been convicted for arms trafficking in the United States, said on Tuesday he had prepared a complaint about prison conditions.

NEW YORK, April 9 (RIA Novosti) - A lawyer of Russian national Viktor Bout, who has been convicted for arms trafficking in the United States, said on Tuesday he had prepared a complaint about prison conditions.

“We have prepared a 30-page complaint about Viktor’s prison conditions, we will discuss this document during our next meeting in person and I will submit it to the central office of the bureau of prisons in Washington,” lawyer Albert Dayan told RIA Novosti.

He also welcomed a new Russian team of lawyers, announced by Bout’s wife Alla on Sunday. The team will focus on the international law aspects of Bout’s arrest in Thailand and his extradition to the United States.

Russian lawyer Alexei Binetsky, who heads the team, refrained from making any comments so far, saying that he is currently studying the case.

Bout, detained in a joint operation by US and Thai authorities in Bangkok in 2008, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for conspiring to kill US citizens and sell arms to Colombian militants. He has denied wrongdoing and called the trial politically motivated, a claim echoed by Russian officials.

In January, Dayan filed an appeal against the sentence, pronounced in April 2012. The appeal is currently being considered.
