Two US Navy sailors were arrested in Japan on Tuesday on suspicion of raping a woman in the country’s southern prefecture of Okinawa, Kyodo news agency reported.
The sailors from Fort Worth Naval Air Base in Texas were on a duty trip at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa and were assigned to return home on Wednesday. On Tuesday, after visiting a bar they allegedly raped a woman.
The victim turned to police and described the suspects, who were arrested several hours later in a hotel, where they came to take their luggage before returning to the United States, the agency said.
According to the agency, one of the sailors denied raping the woman, while the other confessed to committing the crime.
