Police in Beverly Hills has officially closed the investigation into Whitney Houston’s death stating that her death was accidental

Police in Beverly Hills has officially closed the investigation into Whitney Houston’s death stating that her death was accidental, CNN reported.

The 48-year-old U.S. singer died on February 11 in a hotel room in Los Angeles, hours before she was to attend a pre-Grammy Awards party.

An autopsy report, released a week ago by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, said Houston died as a result of accidental drowning with the “effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use” as contributing factors.

“Based on the findings of our investigation and our review of the coroner's report, we have determined that this is not a criminal matter,” CNN quoted a police statement made public on Wednesday.

Houston is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as “the most awarded female artist of all time.” During her singing career, which started when she was 11, Houston won six Grammy Awards, 15 Billboard Music Awards, 21 American Music Awards, two Emmy Awards, and many other music prizes.

She was also known as an actress, particularly for starring opposite Kevin Costner in the 1992 box-office smash The Bodyguard. Her song from the movie, I Will Always Love You, was included into the U.S. Top Ten wedding songs, while in Britain it was named among the ten most popular funeral songs.
