Anti-Semitic attitudes continue rising in the United States, the Anti-Defamation League, or ADL, the agency which fights anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry, said on Friday.

According to a nationwide survey of the American people released by the ADL, 15 percent of Americans, which corresponds to about 35 million adults, hold deeply anti-Semitic views, which is 3 percent higher compared to a similar poll conducted in 2009.

The ADL also said that 31 percent of Americans still believe that "Jews were responsible for the death of Christ", while 25 percent of the polled think that Jews "still talk too much about what happened to them in the Holocaust".

Over the last decade, the highest level of anti-Semitic attitudes was registered in 2002, when 17 percent of Americans harbored anti-Jewish attitudes, the ADL said in a report.

"The fact that anti-Semitic attitudes have increased significantly over the past two years is troubling and raises questions about the impact of broader trends in America – financial insecurity, social uncertainty, the decline in civility and the growth of polarization – on attitudes toward Jews," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director.

According to the ADL's research, 42 percent of foreign-born Hispanics hold anti-Semitic views, while 20 percent of U.S. born Hispanics do not. As far as the African-American population is concerned, in the past four years, anti-Semitic views among them remained steady. In 2011, 29 percent of African-Americans expressed strongly anti-Semitic views.

The national survey was conducted from October 13 to October 23 by the phone among 1,754 adults. The margin of error is 2.8 percent.

The total US population is 312.5 million people.
