The founder of Swedish home products retailer IKEA, one of the world's wealthiest people, Ingvar Kamprad, has been awarded with Russia's Order of Friendship.
President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree to award the businessman for his contribution to the development of Russian-Swedish trade and economic as well as investment cooperation on January 2.
IKEA is the world's largest retailer designing and selling furniture and home accessories. It manages Russia's 12 Mega shopping malls and 12 IKEA stores, annually visited by 200 million people.
Last February, IKEA's management dismissed two top officials in Russia, Per Kaufmann and Stefan Gross, for turning a blind eye to bribes paid by a contractor company to resolve the situation around power supplies to a Mega mall in St. Petersburg.
Later IKEA held a number of checks in its Russian subsidiary, and discovered certain flaws that Kamprad called inadmissible.
