U.S. White House press secretary Robert Gibbs vowed to put on a Canadian ice hockey jersey for the next press briefing after losing a bet to his counterpart from Canada.

Several days ago Gibbs and Canadian prime minister spokesman Dimitri Soudas bet on the final of the women's ice hockey in Vancouver between their national teams, with each vowing to wear a jersey of the winning team. Canada defeated the United States 2-0.

"We're in the process of getting the hockey sweater...," Gibbs said at the opening of the press briefing on Monday. "Trust me, the Canadians have kept in very close contact for this."

When asked about the size of the jersey, stoutly built Gibbs said, "Oh, I'm definitely a medium. I mean, can't you tell?"

He told the journalists that by the end of the week they would have an opportunity to see him wearing this jersey.
