North Korean authorities have detained a U.S. national for illegally entering the communist state from China, Yonhap said on Thursday, citing the official Korean Central News Agency.
A brief English-language report said that "an American was detained for trespassing on the border" and the incident "is now under investigation."
The U.S. embassy in Seoul said it had no immediate knowledge of the incident.
Neither the detainee's name or his motive for crossing the border were disclosed.
On December 24, North Korean authorities detained 28-year-old U.S. human rights activist Robert Park, who crossed into the country from China to draw attention to human rights abuses in the reclusive state.
