Chelsea Clinton is engaged to be married to investment banker Marc Mezvinsky, her long-time boyfriend, a spokesman for her father said.
Matt McKenna, spokesman for former President Bill Clinton, confirmed to ABC News on Monday that the two were engaged.
Chelsea, 29, and Marc, 31, son of former Pennsylvania Rep. Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky and former Iowa Rep. Edward Mezvinsky, on Friday sent an email to their friends.
“We… wanted to share that we are engaged!” it said, in part, adding that they would get married next summer.
Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department spokesman refused to make official comments on the news.
Ian Kelly, spokesman for Chelsea’s mother, State Secretary Hillary Clinton, said Monday: “Well, I have a daughter who’s around – she’s 22 years old, and the last thing I would want would be for the State Department spokesman to talk about the personal plans of my daughter.”
“So I am going to decline any comment on that,” Kelly said.
