WASHINGTON, January 13 (RIA Novosti) - One person died and four others were injured when a U.S. Blackhawk helicopter carrying five people crashed on the campus of Texas A&M University, local media reported.

The UH-60 Blackhawk, carrying four crew members from the Army National Guard and an officer from the university's ROTC, was reportedly taking off on Monday afternoon when the crash occurred, KBTX TV station reported.

"All of the sudden, he dropped straight back down into the ground," The Eagle newspaper quoted Scott Walker, publications manager for the school's alumni association, as saying.

All the crash victims were taken to hospitals, where one of them later died, local officials said. Three of the injured were reported to be in a critical condition.
