MOSCOW, November 11 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is expected to take part in a roundtable of Russia-EU industrialists in Cannes on Thursday, a Russian co-chairman said on Tuesday.

The 2008 EU-Russia Industrialists' Round Table (IRT) Annual Conference will take place in Cannes on November 12-13. As in previous years, this special event will be held on the eve of the EU-Russia Summit and will be attended by policy makers and CEOs from Russia and the EU.

"Against the backdrop of the financial crisis and uneasy global political situation, the conference is particularly relevant this year, and we expect President Medvedev to take part in the event for the first time," Anatoly Chubais said.

"It is obvious that not a single country will go through the global financial crisis without any losses. Russia and the EU are looking to minimize its consequences for its economies, a task that is going to be difficult for any country to achieve on its own, without the two leading players consolidating their efforts," said Chubais, the director general of the Russian Nanotechnology Corporation.

The IRT is a business-minded platform comprising CEOs from EU and Russian companies. It was established in 1997 on the initiative of the EU-Russia Summit to promote dialogue and has evolved into an organization that actively fosters discussion on bilateral economic relations. On this basis, IRT provide business recommendations to policy makers in the EU and Russia.
