GENEVA, September 2 (RIA Novosti) - A Swiss man has struck a bizarre deal to sell a tattoo on his back for 150,0000 euros ($220,000), local media said on Tuesday.
Tim Steiner, 31, a musician from Zurich, sold the elaborate tattoo of the Virgin Mary, created by Belgian artist Wim Delvoye, to a German collector, a spokesperson for De Pury & Luxembourg gallery said.
Under the deal, believed to be unique, the artwork, representing the mother of Jesus with a lifeless skull, will go on public display three times a year.
In addition, when Steiner dies the tattoo which took the Belgian artist 35 hours to create, is to be removed from his back and handed over to the owner.
The tattoo is due to go on show next week in Singapore and Shanghai.
