VIENNA, August 27 (RIA Novosti) - A special meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council, scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed until Thursday, a spokesman for the organization said.

At the meeting, the main decision making body of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe "will discuss the situation in Georgia following Russia's recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia," spokesman Mikhail Evstafyev said.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed decrees earlier on Tuesday recognizing Georgia's breakaway as independent states and called on other countries to follow suit.

The current chairman of the OSCE, Alexander Stubb, said that by recognizing South Ossetia and Abkhazia Russia "violates fundamental OSCE principles."

Western political leaders have criticized Russia's decision as "regrettable."
