MOSCOW, July 1 (RIA Novosti) - Traffic on Canada's national highway was brought to a standstill by 12 million bees when a truck carrying 330 hives overturned in the eastern province of New Brunswick, local media reported Tuesday.
The four-lane road was blocked near the city of St. Leonard as beekeepers sprayed smoke in an attempt to get the bees to return to their hives.
Many witnesses were stung by the insects, including a TV reporter who approached too close to the overturned truck, but no serious injuries were reported.
Emergency personnel, including paramedics and ambulances were on standby and local residents who are allergic to bee stings were advised to leave the city for several hours.
