PARIS, June 14 (RIA Novosti) - Baron Guy de Rothschild, the patriarch of France's family of bankers and financiers, died in Paris Tuesday at the age of 98, his family said Thursday in the Le Figaro daily.

The mourning announcement did not mention a cause of death.

Guy de Rothschild was known not only as a banker, but also one of the most influential representatives of the French financial community, whose advice was often sought by heads of state and government.

During World War Two he left France for the U.S. after he was deprived of French citizenship due to his Jewish origin, and then moved to London, where he became one of the closest associates of Charles de Gaulle.

The funeral of Guy de Rothschild, who was also known as an art patron, has been scheduled for June 21.
