Hu Jintao will pay an official visit to Russia March 26-28, the Kremlin press service said Monday. Jintao will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the two leaders will participate in a ceremony to open Year of China in Russia and a Chinese exhibition.
"We confirm our intention to resume dialogue and negotiations between the two shores of the Taiwan Strait, however, the Taiwanese authorities need to accept the one China principle," he said in an interview with Russian news media.
He said the main obstacle to improving relations between continental China and Taiwan is the refusal by "the Taiwanese authorities to accept the one China principle,' and recognition of the 1992 agreements."
"Moreover, the Taiwanese authorities are intensifying their efforts to achieve de jure independence for Taiwan by amending the Constitution and pinning hopes on Taiwan's separation from China. All of this is rejected by our compatriots," he said.
