MOSCOW, June 29 (RIA Novosti) - Foreign ministers from the G8 confirmed their previous commitments Thursday to assist with bringing peace to troubled regions of Africa.

Ministers from the group of leading industrialized nations said in a statement following talks in Moscow that they had made progress in the implementation of commitments made at the 2005 G8 summit in the U.K. to train and equip some 75,000 peacekeepers, mostly Africans.

The top diplomats from the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, Germany, Italy, France and Canada reiterated their course toward contributing to the creation of peacekeeping forces in Africa, including by coordinated technical assistance, and help to establish regional training centers in Africa and other continents.

The ministers also stressed the necessity to assist the reconstruction of Sudan after a conflict with Chad that had led to the exodus of some 200,000 Sudanese, and its humanitarian improvement, and called on the governments of Chad and Sudan to prevent border clashes, ensure the protection of refugee camps in Chad and solve problems through dialogue and cooperation.
