TEL AVIV, June 14 (RIA Novosti) - Bird watchers have spotted an extraordinary sight in the skies over northern Israel that suggested nature had once again triumphed over man.
Israeli ornithologist Joav Perelman said Wednesday he had taken picture of a stork that had apparently flown all the way from winter grounds in Africa to the Middle East with an arrow sticking out of it.
"It flew pierced with an arrow all the way from the depths of Africa, where it had obviously had had an unfriendly encounter with a hunter from a local tribe," he said.
But Israeli scientists were unable to help the bird as it promptly disappeared after its photo-call and they have lost track of it since.
Perelman said that even if they had found the stork, they might decide against catching it because it could have fatal consequences for the bird.
