"The Turkmen side deems inadmissible any publications, materials or actions that insult people's ethnic and religious feelings," the statement said. "Such acts contradict universally accepted moral and ethical norms, and can by no means benefit the interests of nations and intercultural dialogue."
According to the statement, the Central Asian republic, the majority of whose believers practice Islam, denounces as unacceptable the use of the freedom of press for fostering interethnic and interfaith strife, and shares the outrage felt by Muslims across the world over the publication of the Mohammed cartoons.
The cartoons were originally published in a Danish newspaper last September and reprinted earlier this year in other countries, sparking protests, some of which have turned violent, across the Moslem world.
