Ukraine plunging into "legal chaos" - minister

KIEV, January 10 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine is plunging into "legal chaos", Justice Minister Serhiy Holovatyi said Tuesday. "Politicians have pushed the country into legal chaos," he said commenting on the Ukrainian parliament's decision to dismiss the cabinet.

According to Holovaty, legal chaos could envelop the country because President Viktor Yushchenko no longer has the right to appoint a new prime minister, and the lower chamber of parliament, the Supreme Rada, has drafted no laws for electing a new premier and government.

The constitutional reform that empowered the Supreme Rada to fire and appoint government came into force January 1, but the bills outlining the appointment procedure have not been passed yet.

"The authorities knew that the Supreme Rada would try to dismiss the government in January," Holovatyi said.
