PARIS, October 11 (RIA Novosti) - Regulation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict alone will not resolve the wider problems in the Middle East, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday. "Lebanese-Israeli and Lebanese-Syrian relations must be regulated at the same time, without putting off plans to the future," he said at a news conference following a meeting with French officials on security issues.

"As far as Syrian and Lebanese relations are concerned, over the last year, since UN Security Council Resolution 1556 was adopted, we have seen constructive action from the Syrian leadership both with its military withdrawal from Lebanon and its lack of interference in Lebanese parliamentary elections," he said.

The Syrian leadership is trying to help Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas form positive relations with all Palestinian groups outside its territory, he said.
