Speaking at an expanded SCO session in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said, "The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is designed to become a shield defending our countries from the terrorist threat."
Nazarbayev also said that SCO joint military exercises should be harmonized with international efforts and become an integral part of the global war on terror.
"It is particularly important now that the international community is divided on a series of issues of nuclear proliferation," Nazarbayev said.
According to Nazarbayev, it is universally acknowledged that solid guarantees of peace, stability and security are crucial for establishing a common market of goods and capital, and fulfilling investment projects in the SCO countries.
