BEIRUT, June 30 (RIA Novosti, Yulia Troitskaya) - No one should interfere in the internal affairs of Lebanon, a senior Russian diplomat said Thursday.
Alexander Saltanov, Russia's deputy foreign minister, said after a meeting with Mahmoud Hammoud, the acting foreign minister of Lebanon, that the future of the Lebanese people lay in non-interference in the country's internal affairs.
Saltanov welcomed the recent parliamentary elections in Lebanon and said that they had been held in a democratic and calm manner.
"Russia fully supports the Lebanese people and hopes it will bring its internal affairs into order, and embark on a period of social and economic development based on national principles and stability," Saltanov said.
He added that the future of any state in the region was linked to the settlement of the Israeli-Arab conflict.
