WASHINGTON (VR) — The US soccer team might have been eliminated from the World Cup. But the historic feat its goalie, Tim Howard, achieved might be eternal. Howard, 35, had 16 saves, the most saves in a World Cup game, on the match between the US and Belgium yesterday.

It was painful to watch Howard being on the losing team; it looked like the other 10 players of the US team were there to watch Howard playing.

He was prepared for any kind of ball coming to him; he looked like a ninja or Kung Fu master. He kneeled, dove, punched and kicked the ball away from the goal for the duration of the game.

US soccer fans gathered at DC’s Freedom Plaza in Washington chanted enthusiastically “we are on team Howard” as the match ended.

For people who have been Howard’s fan, last night performance did not come as a surprise. The true fans still remember when Howard scored a goal while playing for Everton against Bolton, in the UK league.

In the meantime, they continue to show their admiration Howard. He was momentarily named Secretary of Defense of the United States on Wikipedia. The page was quickly fixed.

But a White House petition has been started to rename Ronald Regan Washington National Airport to Tim Howard National Airport. The petition has just over 5,000 signatures as of 2pm on Wednesday. The petition needs over 90,000 more signatures to be considered.

The airport’s name may not change, but the loves of Howard fans have no limits.
