NEW YORK (VR) - During a press conference at the UN Headquarters on Friday, Russia’s ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, announced that Russia has submitted “elements” for a future UN resolution on the situation in Ukraine.

The diplomat stressed that the worsening situation in eastern Ukraine urgently requires a response from the Security Council.

“We will not make another draft resolution,” Churkin told reporters. “Instead, we offer the key elements that we believe are necessary to include in the text of the resolution.”

The elements include an immediate end of violence from both sides of the conflict and free access for journalists in the country. He expressed hope that Western countries that have previously blocked draft resolutions on Ukraine will consider the elements in order to put an end to the conflict.

In addition, Churkin referred to Ukrainian president Poroshenko’s peace plan as a “smoke screen” for Ukraine’s militarization in the country’s east.

Today, Poroshenko announced "For every taken life of our servicemen, they will pay with tens and hundreds of theirs. Not a single terrorist will escape responsibility, everyone will get what they deserve," Poroshenko said. Ukrainian authorities are the only ones who refer to the military uprising against the Kiev regime in Eastern Ukraine as "terrorism."

Meanwhile, fighting continued in Ukraine with casualties suffered on all sides. Security Council members were asked to respond to Russia’s framework by Monday.
