WASHINGTON (VR) – Hundreds of protesters gathered in Washington outside the Organization of American States (OAS) today to voice their support for massive anti-government demonstrations in Venezuela.

“We’re here to protest against dictatorship in Venezuela,” one protester told VR.

Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado traveled to Washington in hope of speaking before the OAS. Nelson Romero, a local Venezuelan community leader active in the protests, says in the end she wasn’t given an audience.

Across the street, a small group expressed their support for the Maduro and the Venezuelan Bolivarian Revolution with signs flanked by a Venezuelan flag. They declined to be interviewed by Radio VR.

Since the onset of the protests in the South American nation, 31 people have been killed, 461 injured 1,864 detained in clashes between protesters and police started February 12, according to the Venezuelan Interior Ministry.
