WASHINGTON (VOR)— Russia's two-and-a-half year dispute with the West over the conflict in Syria reached a new pitch Monday, as Moscow warned the United States against military action without UN approval, and cast doubt over the Syrian regime's involvement in a claimed chemical weapons attack last week.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in a news conference today that any use of force against Syria without UN approval would be a "very grave violation of international law".
