MPs in the UK say they want to establish a commercial UK Spaceport, the first of its kind outside the United States by 2018. Eight aerodromes have been shortlisted by the government and Scotland happens to have six of the potential locations. VoR’s Simon Parker reports.

Dubai Airshow kicked off on Sunday with whopping plane orders worth over $100 billion for the US Boeing and European Airbus firms from Gulf carriers. Though the lion's share of the deals so far have gone to Boeing, Airbus - which employs some 100,000 people in the UK, largely manufacturing wings - clinched an order for 50 of its double-decker A380s from Emirates Airline.

Alexander Soldatenkov, a top Russian rocket designer who worked on the mission that made Yury Gagarin the first man in space, has died at the age of 86, the space industry plant where he worked said.

On February 15, a meteor with an estimated diameter of 17m entered the earth's atmosphere at a shallow angle near the city of Chelyabinsk in central Russia.On the same day an asteroid passed close to the earth. VoR looks into the background of these phenomena.
Airlines in Europe, the US, Japan, Chile, India, Qatar and Ethiopia have grounded their Dreamliner aircraft, which means every one of the much-vaunted new aircraft in the world is out of service. The crisis is the latest in a series of setbacks to the Boeing 787. VoR's Tom Spender reports.
British defence contractor BAE Systems says it is in talks on a potential merger with the European aerospace firm EADS. The 29.8-billion-pound deal would create the world’s largest defence and aerospace company and could generate revenues of 60-billion-pounds a year.
