Russian Balls are a key feature of Russian culture with a number of different balls being held in cities all over the world. Traditionally the balls were designed for young debutants to meet each other and build social connections with those in attendance. Sixty couples of debutants have been selected by the Ball Committee for this year's event.

The events also attract cultural acts, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Evgenia Obraztsova, the Prima Ballerina of the Bolshoi Theatre, tenor Dmitry Korczak and musicians Igor Butman and Semen Milstein peforming at last year's Russian Ball in London.

Russian balls are now held in countries all over Europe, such as in Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland.
