The leader of the self-declared Lugansk People's Republic Valery Bolotov said Ukrainian troops had pulled back from the republic's militia and fled Lugansk. "The armed forces of the Lugansk People's Republic have forced the Ukrainian troops to retreat. The frontline moved in our favor on individual stretches. We remain in control of Izvarino and this stretch of the border," Bolotov said at a press conference on Tuesday.
OSCE Representative on Freedom of Mass Media Dunja Mijatovic has condemned a recent attack on the office of Ukraine’s Vesti newspaper in Kiev.
Maidan activists in Kiev have been involved in racketeering, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry reports. Some of the inhabitants of the Maidan tent camp in central Kiev repeatedly commit all sorts of offences, including racketeering, Anton Gerashchenko, an advisor to the interior minister, said during the Freedom of Speech show on Ukrainian television.
Moscow expects the European Union to react adequately and condemn the forceful action of the Kiev authorities with regard to civilians, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday. "Kiev is deaf to appeals to preserve people's lives. We hope that due to this, EU states will react adequately to condemn the criminal policy of the Kiev authorities," the document said.
Kiev police have opened a criminal case into a brawl and shootout in the central Independence Square. The incident occurred in the early hours of June 7. The brawl was sparked by a quarrel between people calling themselves members of Maidan's self-defense, the Kiev police authority said on Monday. So far, no one has been detained in connection with the incident.
On Saturday, several dozen radicals attacked the Vesti newspaper’s office in Kiev with air guns, stones and tear gas. There is no doubt that the attack aimed to punish the newspaper for offering space to those who disagree with Kiev’s policies, Vesti journalists said.
Gunfire was heard on Kiev's Maidan Square during the early morning hours on Monday, activists said. "An armed provocation was staged in the third barricaded area overnight. The attackers were wearing balaclava hats. Maidan, hundreds were alerted and drove away the assailants," the Central Rada of Maidan Hundreds reported on Facebook on Monday. Eyewitnesses confirmed the overnight clash and automatic gunfire on Maidan.
Ukrainian police are investigating into Saturday's attack on the editorial office of the Kiev-based newspaper Vesti, the Kiev police department said on Sunday, adding that a criminal case had been opened on hooliganism charges, informs ITAR-TASS.
Another protest rally of the so-called 'popular veche' is being held on Sunday in Kiev’s central Independence Square, known as Maidan. That word has become a symbol of popular protestation. Activists refuted information that Maidan was rounding off. "Maidan is not going to leave," said one of activists who said that ongoing protests were "not playing into the hands of the current authorities."
The dangerous bellicose rhetoric and saber rattling declarations by the Kiev authorities continue to reach newer and higher levels with the new minister of defense wasting no time to issue yet another wild and dangerous statement. During his confirmation hearing to the post of defense minister in front of the Ukrainian post-coup parliament Valeriy Heletey boldly declared that there would be "… a victory parade in Ukraine's Sevastopol." Such a statement, for all intents and purposes, might be seen as being tantamount to a declaration of war against Russia.

The village of Metalist outside of Lugansk, eastern Ukraine, again came under artillery fire on Thursday evening, a spokesman for the self-proclaimed "Lugansk People's Republic" told Interfax. "The Ukrainian army resumed artillery strikes at around 8:00 pm local time," the spokesman said.
