St Petersburg subway undergoes thorough inspection

Employees of the St. Petersburg metro thoroughly inspected all railroad switches and rails last night, the metro's administration says. On Tuesday, Moscow metro saw the biggest industrial catastrophe: a train derailed between the metro stations Park Pobedy and Slavyansky Bulvar. According to the latest reports, 23 people were killed and 150 were injured and sent to hospitals.

"At night on July 16, St. Petersburg metro was subjected to an unscheduled inspection of all technological processes. Employees checked all railroad switches (more than 500) and rails. They have also checked a part of metro that is under construction and is connected to Mezhdunarodnaya metro station. No defects have been found," the statement says.

It also added that the subway employees are undergoing additional training, all trains and technical inspection stations are being checked, and that the metro's administration will hold more unscheduled inspections in the future.
