Emergency situation regime introduced in south Sakhalin after hurricane

Power supply of settlements in the Sakhalin region disrupted by hurricane is only partially restored by now. Electricity is still missing in some areas of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, an ITAR-TASS correspondent was told by the Sakhalinenergo press-service. More than 7,400 residents still remain without electricity.

Emergency repair works aimed at supplying electricity to houses and facilities are now under way on more than 300 sites of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Power supply of 10 districts and residential neighborhoods of the city is disrupted. Several houses were unroofed or their roof was damaged. Hurricane in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk toppled about 1.5 thousand of trees, the report says.

After a morning inspection trip around the city, acting mayor Sergey Nadsadin held a meeting with specialists from the relevant services and departments on the issue of prompt elimination of the consequences of the powerful hurricane.

Since Friday evening, all relevant services and departments are working around the clock. Last night emergency response and repair teams were engaged in restoring the work of the life-support systems of the city.

All healthcare facilities and large enterprises located on the territory of the urban district function normally.
