Coup d'Etat and seizure of power are currently attempted in Ukraine – Russia

The developments in Ukraine are an overt attempt to stage a coup d’etat and use force to seize power, said the Russian Foreign Ministry official spokesman, Alexander Lukashevich, in a statement on Thursday.

"Now that rebel fighters have been using firearms on an increasingly greater scale, it should be seen beyond any doubt as an overt attempt to stage a coup d’etat and use force to seize power. We strongly denounce action by the radical extremists, who are chiefly responsible for the violence and bloody outrage", he said.

Russia demands Kiev protest leaders put immediate stop to bloodshed

Russia has issued an official warning to the leaders of Kiev protesters in Ukraine saying they must put an immediate stop to bloodshed. Russia's deputy foreign policy chief Alexander Lukashevich said on Thursday that the Kiev protest leadership resume peace dialog with the government and refrain from all threats and ultimatums.

"We would like to reiterate our demand that leaders of the [Maidan] 'square' immediately end this bloodshed and start looking for a peaceful way out of the crisis, without any threats or ultimatums," Mr. Lukashevich said.

"This situation can and must be settled within the framework of constitutional rights of Ukraine's current government," he added.
