Pakistani Taliban confirm death of Hakimullah Mehsud in US drone strike
"Hakimullah Mehsud's funeral is scheduled for 3 pm (Saturday) in Miranshah," an intelligence source said, referring to the main regional city.
A US drone strike in Pakistan killed the head of the Pakistani Taliban on Friday, security sources told Reuters, the latest in a series of blows to Pakistan's most feared militant group.
The US drone successfully struck a Pakistani Taliban hideout in the country's troubled north-west, killing four militant commanders, military officials and the Interior Ministry report.
An official said high-profile Taliban figures were among the dead. According to one report, elusive Pakistani Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud is dead.
Hakimullah Mehsud has been reported dead several times before. But late on Friday, several intelligence, army and militant sources across the country confirmed he had been killed in the strike in the lawless North Waziristan region.
"We can confirm Hakimullah Mehsud was killed in the drone strike," said one senior security official.
