The Bolivian president's plane made a second technical landing en-route to the Bolivian capital La Paz.

It landed at the airport in Fortaleza in northeastern Brazil after taking off from the Canary Islands on Wednesday night where it had stopped to refuel.

President Evo Moraleshad been forced to spend several hours in Vienna due to the fact that France and Portugal closed their airspace to the presidential airliner.

The reason for this, according to the Bolivian authorities, was that the plane was believed to have been carrying U.S. intelligence whistleblower Edward Snowden on board.

Latin American leaders have expressed extreme concern about the situation and are going to hold an emergency summit on Thursday.

In the capital of Bolivia, near the French embassy there have been protests with demonstrators burning the flags of two European countries, and others throwing stones and firecrackers at the building of the diplomatic mission.
