The G20 Leaders' Summit opens in St. Petersburg under the Russian Presidency. The G20 summit focuses on fostering strong, sustainable and balanced growth, but it will also focus on tensions between Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama. Discussions are meant to be around economics, but will be overshadowed by Syria.
The two-day-long G20 Leaders’ Summit will result in the adoption of the G20 Leaders Joint Statement that will reflect the G20’s intentions and concrete mechanisms for further work on stimulating strong, sustainable and balanced growth.

After dinner the guests of the G20 summit will watch a finely coloured musical show on the water. The stage for the show will be the Great cascade of Peterhof fountains.

A political solution is the only way to end the Syria crisis, a senior Chinese official said ahead of the G20 summit in Russia on Thursday, warning world powers to be "highly prudent" over the issue. "War cannot solve the problem in Syria. The current situation shows that a political solution is the only way to solve the issue," spokesman for the Chinese delegation Qin Gang told reporters, urging "the concerned countries to be highly prudent and to be responsible".
