Dubai authorities set free a Norwegian woman that was accused of an extramarital sexual relationship and sentenced her to a jail term in the United Arab Emirates, Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

“Marta Dalel can leave the country now,” said Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Espes Barth Eide. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Mrs. Dalel won’t be deported, but will go freely, as she has received an official pardon by the Emir of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum “If she wants, she is free to stay in Dubai.

She received her passport back,” as was stated in the Dubai authorities’ report. But Mrs. Dalel is expected to head back home. Dubai police arrested 24-year-old Norwegian Marta Delal in March, when she tried to report a rape.

Last week a district court sentenced her to a 16 month jail term on a charge of extramarital sexual relationships, illegitimate usage of alcohol and false testimony.

Nevertheless, right after the arrest authorities received a diplomatic petition and put Marta Delal under the care of the Norwegian Cultural Center in Dubai, where she’s been living recently.
