Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has called for a program to convert Russia’s vehicle fleet from to natural gas-based fuel.

“This will enable us to make full use of Russia’s competitive advantages, considering its natural gas opportunities,” the premier said in Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday.

“Natural gas-fueled cars are among the most promising modes of transport. They consume two times less fuel than petrol or diesel-fueled cars,” Medvedev said.

A switch to natural gas-based motor fuel will make many Russian industrial branches more competitive, he added.
