Today, collection of signatures for the petition in support of the state funeral of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has kicked off in Great Britain. Deputies of the British Parliament from the Conservative party, as well as the leading right and centrist country's mass media supported this idea, the Sky News channel has reported.

In her last will Thatcher opposed a state funeral. "She considered that in times of economic crisis, money from the state budget should not be squandered on her funeral", theBBC broadcasting Corporation explained. - Thatcher opposed a state funeral, she ordered that after her death her body should be cremated."

As it became known to the ITAR-TASS correspondent, the question about the format of the funeral of the "iron lady" was repeatedly discussed by both the previous and the current government of the United Kingdom.

In such conditions, the current Cabinet headed by conservative leader David Cameron made a decision to organize a "ceremonial funeral", which combine elements of state funeral and are held with the participation of military units and are accompanied by military honors. That is the waythe Queen mother was buried in the spring of 2002, andPrincess Diana was buried in the autumn of 1997. In the last 400 years, only a few were buried with such honorsin the UK.

The exact date of Margaret Thatcher’s funeral is not determinedyet. It is expected that it will be held on April 17 or 18.
