Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades has decided to open a casino in the country’s south in a bid to raise additional money to bring the country out of its hard-hitting economic crisis, Deutsche Welle reports.

According to DW, despite strong posttests from the local Orthodox Church,  Anastasiades has already instructed the government  to negotiate with the facility’s owners the terms of employment. Cypriot citizens will account for a hefty 70 percent of the new casino’s staff.

Until now gambling houses have only been allowed in the island’s Turkish-occupied north.
