Dozens die in Iraq terror attacks

Some 40 people have died in a spate of terror attacks across Iraq.

In Baghdad alone, five car bombs exploding amid Friday crowds outside Shia mosques are known to have left 26 worshipers killed and 54 injured.

In El-Miqdadia about 100 kilometers north of the Iraqi capital, two car bomb blasts killed nine police.

In Kirkuk in the north, a car bomb set off near a Shia mosque killed 5 and injured about 80 people.

15 killed in Iraqi Shiite mosques bombings

Four car bombs targeting Shiite mosques during Friday prayers in Baghdad and the disputed northern city of Kirkuk killed at least 15 people and wounded 95, officials said, updating an earlier toll.

The blasts struck within an hour of each other from around 1:00 pm (1000 GMT), security and medical officials said, the latest in an apparent spike in unrest in Iraq.

Four bombs go off outside Iraq Shiite mosques

Four car bombs struck Shiite mosques during Friday prayers in Baghdad and the disputed northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, killing at least four people and wounding more than 80, officials said.

The blasts all struck within an hour of each other in the Baghdad neighbourhoods of Jihad, Qahira and Zafraniyah, as well as in an area of southern Kirkuk.
