Cyprus is not trying to get a new loan from Russia but wants to attract more investment in its banking and energy industry sectors, Cypriot Finance Minister Michael Sarris said.

Mr. Sarris also said that Nicosia has been discussing with Moscow a possibility of extending the $2.5 billion loan limit to 2020 and reducing the interest rate from 4.5% to 2.5%.

Cyprus is on the brink of default after its parliament had rejected the EU proposed levy on bank deposits.
