Putin to inspect Pechora child-care centre

Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to inspect the Pechora child-care centre, in the northwest of Russia, from which US foster parents adopted Russian kids who later died in the United States.

The Russian President’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, has said the inspection has been scheduled for early March.

Dima Yakovlev and Maxim Kuzmin were sent to American families from the Pechora orphanage. Dima was six, when he died of brutal treatment by his foster parents in 2008.

The three-year old Maxim, sent to a Texas family for upbringing, died of beating in January this year. The very same officials formalized documents for both boys.

A law that’s been in effect since early this year and that’s named after Dima Yakovlev, bans US citizens from adopting Russian children.
