Euro-Atlantic security ‘unthinkable without Russia’ – German FM

Germany believes no aspect of Euro-Atlantic security, including missile defence, nuclear disarmament and conventional and nuclear arms control, is imaginable without close cooperation with Russia.

Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle spoke about this at the Munich security conference Saturday.

He also said that Euro-Atlantic security rules must apply to the entire hemispheric swathe stretching from Canada’s Vancouver to Russia’s Vladivostok.

Mr Westerwelle emphasized the role of Russia in international crisis management and spoke about the importance of economic cooperation with Russia.

The report is from The Voice of Russia’s correspondent in Munich.
