Iraq frees 888 prisoners

The Iraqi authorities have released 888 prisoners in response to rallies by Sunni minority in western and northern Iraq, Deputy Prime Minister Hussein al-Shahristani told a news conference in Baghdad on Tuesday.

According to him, later, more than one thousand prisoners will be released on bail.

In January, the Deputy Prime Minister set up a committee to meet the demand of protesting Sunnis.
